Keyboarding for Speed & Accuracy
Description
This self paced e-course is for you if you want to improve your existing typing skills. You’ll use the EduTyping program, a typing tutorial designed for personal computers using Windows, Mac, and Linux systems, to increase your speed and accuracy by typing practice documents, news articles and taking timed tests. Students who successfully complete this course will learn how to touch-type quickly and efficiently on a QWERTY keyboard.
This comprehensive course focuses on learning the QWERTY keyboard thoroughly to prepare you for more advanced skill building techniques. Once you master the basic skills, you’ll become faster and more confident at typing. Students receive a certificate verifying w.p.m. typing speed and accuracy upon completion. This course is self paced and you will interact with your instructor through the Office Skills Collaborative Online Classroom.
Pre-Requisites
Beginning Keyboarding where you know the basic key locations and the ability to type at least 20 WPM..
Requirements
No software is required to take this keyboarding course as you will learn using EduTyping, a 100% web-based online technology. The course is completely online and you only need access to the Internet using a major browser. Please see below for recommended browsers and specific requirements.
- The recommended browser to use is FireFox, which can be downloaded and installed for free by visiting www.mozilla.com.
- Adobe Flash player is required (which is usually pre installed with most browsers) and can be download for free by visiting www.adobe.com.
- If you are using Internet Explorer, version 6.0 or higher is required for the students, and version 7.0 or higher is required for instructors. Upgrade IE for free by visiting www.microsoft.com.
- Another excellent browser option is Google Chrome, which can be downloaded and installed for free by visiting www.google.com/chrome.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Improve their typing speed by continuing to master the Alphabetic, Number and Common Symbol keys on the QUERTY keyboard using the Edutyping Software program.
COURSE OUTLINE
Week 1 - Practice, Skill Building and 1 to 2 Minute Timed Writings
Your first week of keyboarding instructs you on how to login to your online keyboarding program. You'll also get acquainted with the software and an introduction to the basics of learning how to type. Once online you will:
