Project Guidelines
When creating an Excel worksheet, you need to make several decisions that will determine the appearance and characteristics of the finished worksheet. Follow these basic guidelines:
- Plan the layout of the worksheet - Rows typically contain items analogous to items in a list.
- Determine necessary formulas and functions - Formulas should be known in advance of creating the worksheet
- Identify how to format elements of the worksheet- the appearance of the worksheet affects its ability to communicate clearly. Numeric data should be formatted in generally accepted formats (accounting style and comma)
- Establish rules for conditional formatting - Decide when you would like a cell to stand out and determine in what way. Often negative numbers can be highlighted by placing a different background color in the cells.
- Specify how the printed worksheet should appear - Make sure your worksheet can be printed in a readable manner. Excel prints worksheets in both landscape and portrait and data can be adjusted to fit on one page.
