Internet Online Course
Lesson 6 - Perform a Simple Search using Google.
There
are many search engines that you can use but Google is by far the
most popular. Therefore, we will use Google in this lesson.
Step
1. Prepare for the Lesson.
Open
up another Internet Explorer Window. From the menu, select File > New
Window. Click on the "restore down" button so you can still see your instructions
on this screen.

Step
2. Go to www.google.com search engine.
Click
In the address bar, type in www.google.com. If you highlight the current
web address, you can type
right over it.
Then
click the
"GO"
button

Step 3 - Perform the Search
Click in the search box shown below and type in the phrase "Internet
History". Click on the Google Search button shown below.

Step 4 - Analyze your Results
You should see
a screen something like the following. Analyze the results. Notice the number
of results on the right hand side and the actual results
on the left side. If you click on any of the text hyperlinks for the actual
results, it will take you to the actual web sites that your search engine
found. Notice that
the
search
engine reveals the first 10 results of about 362,000,000. Usually the top 10
are the most relevant to your search. Quite often, you will need to narrow
down your search a bit to get the results you are looking for.

Practice
There
is no quiz for this module. Perform a Google Search on your own for
the phrase "Internet Service Providers". Print our the
first page of your results and give a copy to your teacher at the
next
class session. You can do the search from any of the following search
engines. Just click any of the links below.
